Toilet Paper Kale

I love teaching my daughter about recycling. So when I saw a pin about using toilet paper rolls as seed starters I immediately began stocking our empty tp rolls.  We need kale in our garden for our morning mean green juice, so in went the kale seeds. The photo below is the first sign of green poking its head from the tp roll of dirt after about six days.

I am not completely sold on the tp recycling idea, only because the rolls get too moist and are loosing their shape before the plants are ready for the garden.

The Bok Choy Experiment

After finding a pin about growing a new celery plant from an old one, Syd and I decided we would try the same method with our baby bok choy we purchased from the farmers market. We simply cut the bok choy, careful to leave a healthy base. We then placed the base in a shallow dish of water. Each day we add a little water and take them outside for sun. Then, in the evening, they come back inside as it is still too cold at night. Above you can see our photo from day one and below a photo form day five. What fun! I cannot wait to add them to our garden.

Here is a snapshot at day 10. It is sprouting nicely and just about ready for the garden bed.
